The design consists of three components – laboratories, classrooms, and an auditorium. One of the components is a 165,000 sf, 5-story building, which accommodates 40 research laboratories with an open concept design – each lab opens to another. In addition, a full-service Class 100 clean room, among the first of its kind in Houston, includes a static and vibration free environment, with special air filters to remove virtually all dust particles. The design also provides general-purpose classroom space with a 2‑story, 35,000 sf wing containing eleven classrooms. The third component is a 2-story, circular 550-seat auditorium with the exterior painted Cougar red. The auditorium and classrooms accommodate more than 1,700 students each teaching hour.
