Houston Emergency Center

128,000 SF — 2 stories
Architect — PGAL

Also known as the Houston Emergency Center, this award-winning facility on 10.8 acres was designed to create a state-of-the-art, modular, expandable facility to consolidate the city's communications systems and personnel, providing enough space for planned growth to the year 2020, as well as secure parking for over 500 cars. Robust technology and redundancy are essential to the facility's operation the new systems system's most significant benefit will be common protocol for interagency transaction exchange between 9-1-1, Police, Fire, EMS, and Emergency Management. The system also includes interface for connections to state agencies, the Harris County Sheriff's Department, METRO (the city transit authority), and TranStar. In addition to a tightly monitored security system and gated lot, the building is designed to withstand natural disasters.
